What Are Chakras and How Do We Align Them?
Moon Sutras
The Sanskrit word chakra first appears in the Vedas and refers to wheels of energy within the body. In Ayurveda, yoga and meditation, seven primary chakras run from the base of the spine to the crown of the head.
When energy moves freely through these centres, we feel balanced. When it doesn’t, it often shows up as stress, emotional imbalance or physical discomfort. Working with the chakras is about restoring that flow with intention.
What Are The Seven Chakras and What Do They Represent?
1. Root Chakra (Muladhara)
Located at the base of the spine, the root chakra represents stability, safety and survival. When balanced, you feel grounded and secure. When not, anxiety and fear tend to take over.
Physical signs can include low energy, digestive issues and tension in the lower body.

2. Sacral Chakra (Svadhishthana)
Located below the navel, this chakra governs creativity, pleasure and emotional flow. When aligned, you feel inspired, open and connected to your desires.
When blocked, you may feel stuck, unmotivated or disconnected from your body.

3. Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura)
Located in the upper abdomen, this is your centre of personal power. It governs confidence, direction and decision-making.
When balanced, you feel clear and in control. When not, self-doubt and low energy take over.

4. Heart Chakra (Anahata)
Located at the centre of the chest, the heart chakra represents love, compassion and emotional balance.
When open, you feel connected and at ease. When blocked, it can show up as distrust, disconnection or emotional heaviness.

5. Throat Chakra (Vishuddha)
Located in the throat, this chakra governs communication and self-expression.
When balanced, you speak clearly and confidently. When not, miscommunication and frustration often follow.

6. Third Eye Chakra (Ajna)
Located between the brows, this chakra is linked to intuition, awareness and clarity.
When aligned, you trust your instincts and see things clearly. When blocked, confusion and indecision take over.

7. Crown Chakra (Sahasrara)
Located at the top of the head, the crown chakra represents connection to something beyond the self.
When balanced, there is a sense of calm and perspective. When not, it can feel like disconnection or lack of direction.

How to work with your chakras
The most effective way to begin is simple: choose the chakra that reflects what you need right now.
Wear the corresponding stone daily. Stay consistent. Let the practice build over time.
This is where the shift happens.
